Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is on her way to having it all: a devoted boyfriend (Justin Long), a hard-earned job promotion, and a bright future. But when she’s forced to make a tough decision that evicts an elderly woman from her house, Christine becomes the victim of an evil curse. Now she has only three days to dissuade a dark spirit from stealing her soul before she is dragged to hell for an eternity of unthinkable torment. Director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man and The Evil Dead Trilogy) returns to the horror genre with a vengeance in the film that critics rave is “the most crazy, fun and terrifying horror movie in years!” (Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly)

Critics Consensus: Sam Raimi returns to top form with Drag Me to Hell, a frightening, hilarious, delightfully campy thrill ride.
*

It's the word "awesome" where every letter of the word has little parasitic awesome's feeding off of them, and each smaller parasitic awesome has even smaller awesome amoebas clinging to them, forever on down

*

A funhouse freak show that's more interested in delivering old-fashioned chills than in wallowing in misogyny, masochism and mutilation.

*

It's also refreshing to see a strong female lead character, even though it's not uncommon to find women at the forefront of gross-out horror pictures.

*

Raimi, the man behind the Evil Dead movies, has always had a twisted eye when it comes to horror. Thankfully, he brings that approach to this project - creating a film that features as many laughs as it does scary moment.

Ironically, it's a masterpiece of the modern horror genre. it shows a lot of cinematic strength, and it's a surprisingly meaningful movie.
